I skipped that step, and I really think it would have helped with my bubbling issue, even with using PPG.Īs for exterior paint, I used Sherwin Williams exterior latex paint, custom emerald green color for the sides, cream/white for the top. Oh, make SURE you wipe the foam down with denatured alcohol before you do any gluing. I guess I'll have to do that on my next one. Honestly, I kind of wish I had used TiteBond2, as any bubbles would have been easy to iron out.
I rather have an adhesive that cures the canvas to the foam.
I'd be curious to see if that ever fully cures, or if it stays pretty soft/flexible. I don't know about that Jack Black coat you posted, but it is mostly asphalt and water. Other people have said that Valspar bonding primer has worked well for them. I painted it onto some aluminum, and it really bonded well. I haven't had a chance to try it on foam/canvas, but I have tried Sherwin Williams High bond primer for some other things, and have been really impressed with how will it holds up. The bubbles don't impact the weather tightness of the camper, and it's just aesthetics, but still. Guess which side has bubbling now? Yeah, the PPG side. I only had enough for one side of the camper, and I tried the updated PPGformula on the other side. I bought what ended up being the last can of Glidden at my local HD when I built my foamie three years ago.
